The candle problem
Used to overcome functional fixedness – identifies people who see match box as a solution to the problem
How incentives affect jobs (dynamic vs jobs with clear objective)
Incentives narrows focus and hinders productivity in dynamic jobs. However, incentives helped increase productivity when the objective of a cognitive job
Extrinsic motivators
External factors or rewards that are tangible and typically provided by the organization to encourage performance
eg: salary bonuses, paid time off, etc
Intrinsic motivators
Internal factors that come from within the individual. These factors are related to personal satisfaction, fulfillment, and the inherent enjoyment of the work itself
eg: job satisfaction, purpose, personal growth, mastery
Results Only Work Environment (ROWE)
A structure that certain companies use where employees do not have a fixed schedule, can show up whenever they want as long as the work is done. Led to higher productivity and satisfaction while reducing turnover rates
