What is your ID?
A
- Your ID is governed by the pleasure principle
- it is present at birth
- and is consists of primal urges, drives and instincts

- it is governed by the reality principle
- not present at birth
- said to tame the ID
- response to control by others e.g. parents

A
- governed by morality principle
- inner voice , right or wrong
- present at age 5
- in response to parental discipline

Repression, Denial and displacement

What are defence mechanisms ?
A
Created by the ego to protect from trauma or ID or superego by distorting reality

What is repression ?
A
Blocking out the feelings by any means necessary, staying busy, or drinking alcohol.

A
Refusing to believe reality

A
Transferring your feelings of source to someone else.

A
- 0 to 2 years
- focus on mouth pleasure
- the object of desire is the mothers breast
- fixations could include - smoking, biting nails, sarcastic

Explain the anal stage and any fixations.
A
- 1 to 3 years
- pleasure from anus
- either keeping poo in or letting poo out
- fixations consist of- perfection or obsessive or messy and thoughtless

Explain the phallic stage and any fixations.
A
- 3 to 6 years
- pleasure from genital area
- Oedipus- fancying your mother ( son ) or jealous of your fathers penis ( daughter )
- fixations- narcissistic, reckless , possibly homosexual
