What does the humanistic approach suggest/focus on?
- an individuals behaviour is connected to their inner feelings and self image
- everyone has an innate capacity for self actualisation
- we are each responsible for our own happiness
- we all have free will
Define free will.
You have can consciously control and influence your own personal destiny, choice of what happens in your life and how you behave.
What are the 5 levels , bottom to top, of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs?
Physiological , Safety, love/ belonging, esteem, Self-Actualisation
What is associated with the psychological level?
Breathing, food, water, sex, sleep, homeostasis, excretion.( deficiency needs)
What is the safety level?
Security of body, of employment, of resources,of morality, of the family, of health, of property.
What is the Love/Belonging level?
Friendship, family, sexual intimacy.
What is the self esteem level?
Self esteem, confidence, achievement, respect of other, respect by others.
What is the self actualisation level?
Morality, creativity, spontaneity, problem solving, lack of prejudice, acceptance of facts.( growth needs)
What does Maslow’s hierarchy of needs show?
A model of psychological development
Define Self actualisation.
- Reaching your full potential
- an honest relationship with the realities of an imperfect world
- seeing the world with awe and wonder not fear and inhibition
- rare 1% achieve
What does person centred therapy focus on?
- positive regard - love and acceptance (unconditionally or conditionally?)
- congruence - agreement of harmony
- conditions of worth - the things you feel you must do to get worth from others
What is it called when your self image and ideal self are similar?
Congruent
