Learningapporach : Social Leanring Theory Flashcards
Bandura created the learning theory but what approach did it come from and what did he add?
- he agreed with the behaviourist approach ( learning occurs through experience)
- but he also proposed that learning takes place in a social context through observation and imitation
What is it called when you learn from observation of someone’s (role model) behaviour and its consequences. Better the consequences the more the likely the behaviour is to be copied.
Vicarious reinforcement
What are the 4 meditational (cognitive) processes in learning? And a brief definition?
- Attention - noticing behaviour
- Retention - remembering behaviour
- Motor reproduction - ability to do behaviour
- Motivation - the will to perform the behaviour
First 2 = learning
Last 2 =performance
Are people more or less likely to perform a behaviour if they see a role model performing it?
More likely if they identify a role model
Bandura et al created study what were the basic procedures?
Children watched :
- adult behaving aggressively to Bobo doll
- adult behaving no aggressively to bob doll
And were then given the doll to play with.
What did Bandura find?
The children who watched the aggressive behaviour were more likely to act aggressively towards the doll.
