What is a pure substance?

A single elemt or compound, not mixed with any other substance

How can you tell if a substance is pure?
A
They have specific and fixed melting a boiling points, so if when heated, the substance turns into for example a gas at slightly above or lower than its exact fixed boiling point than it is impure
