Purity and formulations Flashcards
IN chemistry what does a pure substance
contains only one type of compound or element
How does the melting point and the boiling point tell you how pure a substance
A pure substance will boil/melt at a certain temp
You can test for purity of a sample by measuring its melting or boiling point and comparing it to pure substance
closer to the measured value the purer it is
What do impurities do to melting point and boiling
Impurities will lower melting point an increase the melting range of your substance
Impurities will increase your boiling point and may result in your sample boiling at a range of temperatures
What is a formulation
A formulation is a mixture which has been designed as a useful product. Formulations are all around us, for example: fuels. cleaning products.
Each component in formulation is a measured quantity contributes to the propertied of the formulation so that it meets required function
Why are formulations important in pharmaceuticals
Altering formulation chemists can make sure it delivers the drug to the right part of the body at right concentration and that its consumable for a long time
