Pulmonary Flashcards
1
Q
Typical findings in pt with chronic bronchitis
A
lower O2 sat with central cyanosis ("blue bloater) pulmonary HTN right heart failure peripheral edema congestive hepatomegaly elevated JVP
2
Q
Sarcoidosis etiology, manifestations
A
- unknown etiology
- Targets the eyes, skin, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys
- Causes lymphadenopathy and parotid gland enlargement
3
Q
Sarcoidosis pulmonary involvement
A
-starts with bil. hilar enlargement the progresses to fibrosis and causes restrictive pulm abnormalitis
4
Q
Restrictive pulmonary findings
A
-increased stiffness of the lungs: hyperventilation, reduced O2 diffusion *respiratory alkalosis, hypoxemia, and hypocapnea -reduced total lung capacity -decreased CO diffusing capacity -Normal FEV1 sec/FVC
5
Q
CF cause and findings
A
- autosomal recessive
- viscous secretions of resp, GI, reproductive tracts
- chronic bronchitis, hyperinflation, bronchiectasis, cor pulmonale
- pancreatic insufficiency
6
Q
CF common resp infectious agent
A
pseudomonas aeruginosa
7
Q
Common causes of clubbing
A
lung cancer cyanotic congenital heart dz endocarditis cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis lung abscess hepatic cirrhosis chron's dz
8
Q
PaCO2
A
- measures alveolar ventilation
- hypoventilation causes hypercarbia –> resp acidosis
- hyperventilation causes hypocarbia –> resp alkalosis
