pulmnology Flashcards
CO poisoning symptoms
HA, dizziness, nausea, bright red complexion
tx for CO poisoning
100% hyperbaric O2 or high flow O2
effect of CO on the O2 dissociation curve
left shift –> CO has increased affinity of hgb (greater than O2) will bind more tightly to Hgb –> carboxyhemoglobin
Cystic Fibrosis–> most common mutation
Deletion of Phe508 on chromosome 7; 1 AA deletion causing a defect in the transport of CFTR to the cell surface
Inheritance patter of CF
autosomal recessive
Sarcoidosis etiology
nonsmoking AA female in her 30s
MC sarcoidosis lab finding
Hypercalcemia
restrictive lung disease PFTs
decreased TLC, FVC, RV, and Diffusion capacity, low/normal FEV1
Elevated or normal FEV1:FVC ratio
Tx of sarcoidosis
corticosteroids
Presentation of sarcoidosis
weight loss, dyspnea, fever
Histologic hallmark of sarcoid
noncaseating granulomas with epitheliod cells and CD4 T cells
lab findings of sarcoidosis
hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria
clinical findings of sarcoidosis
bilateral hilar LAD, hypercalcemia, abn PFTs
pathogenesis of hypercalcemia in sarcoidosis
Macrophages are overexpressing 1-alpha-hydroxylase –>increased vit D-1,25 activation –> increased absorption of Ca and reabsorption of PO4, inhibition of PTH
most common cause of common cold
rhinovirus
