Pulm Restrictive And Transplant Flashcards
3 traumatic causes of restrictive lung dysfxn
Thoracic trauma, pneumothorax, spontaneous pneumothorax
4 types of thoracic traumas that can cause lung dyfxn
-blunt: MVA
-penetrating: gunshot or stabbing
-flail chest: free-floating seg d/t multiple fxs
-rib fxs
What is pneumothorax? Classic signs?
Air/gas in pleural space causing lung collapse
Signs: tracheal deviation AWAY from affected side, decreases/absent breath sounds
3 types of pneumothorax? Other symps
Tension: chest trauma, resp distress, and hypoTN
Hemithorax: one side affected
Hemothorax: blood in pleural space
Symps: unilateral chest pain, dyspnea, tachycardia
Primary vs secondary spontaneous pneumothorax? Clinical present (7)
Prim: tall, thin, w/o pulm distress
Secondary: associated w/ underlying disease
Clinical: sharp pleuritic pain, ipsilateral chest pain, dyspnea, increased work of breathing, tachycardia, decreased/absent breath sounds, decreased tactile Fremitus
4 pleural causes of restrictive lung dysfxn
-atelectasis
-pleural effusion
-pleuritis
-acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS)
Atelectasis - what is it
