To place information about Coast Guard operations and programs before the public, using all available forms of news and public information media.

To reinforce our position as an integral and contributing part of the communities in which we live and serve.
What is the objective of the internal information program?
To keep every member of the Coast Guard family fully informed about ongoing and future service operations, policies, programs, accomplishments and challenges.
What is the public affairs policy for public information?
It is policy to make available to the public all information concerning the activities of the service except when restricted by law. Maximum disclosure with minimum delay.
Who at a unit has authority to release information?
Public affairs is a command responsibility. COs and OINCs have release authority pertaining to their commands and are responsible for their unit’s PA program.
What is the posture of the public affairs program?
The PA program is active, not passive.
When should information be withheld?
When it is:
- Classified
- Specifically required by federal statute (ie: FOIA and Privacy Acts)
- A trade secret or commercial or financial information considered privileged or confidential
- Contained in inter or intra agency documents that would not be available by law to a party
- Unwarranted invasion of personal privacy
- Info which could jeopardize with a judicial proceeding or LE official or activity
