What is puberty?
Puberty is the period during which males and females reach sexual maturity
At what age does puberty usually begin?
Between ages 11 to 15, though it may vary.
What triggers puberty?
The production of sex hormones, which stimulate gametogenesis and sexual maturity.
What male sex hormone is produced during puberty?
Testosterone.
What female sex hormones are produced during puberty?
Oestrogen and progesterone.
What are three physical changes in males during puberty?
Growth of facial hair.
Larynx enlarges, deepening the voice.
Muscles enlarge, and shoulders become wider.
What are three physical changes in females during puberty?
Development of breasts.
Hips widen, and fat is deposited below the skin.
Growth of pubic and armpit hair.
