DNA Flashcards
What is the function of cytoplasm in a cell?
Cytoplasm is a watery substance that suspends organelles and allows for metabolic reactions to take place
What do ribosomes do?
They make proteins.
What does the nucleus do?
It controls the cell’s activities.
What is the function of the nuclear membrane?
It surrounds the nucleus and has pores to allow substances in and out.
What is nucleoplasm?
A jelly-like fluid inside the nucleus.
What does the nucleolus do?
It makes ribosomes.
What is the chromatin network?
It contains DNA, which carries genetic information.
What are the two types of nucleic acids?
DNA & RNA
What is the shape of DNA?
a double-helix shape
What are the four nitrogenous bases in DNA?
Adenine (A), Thymine (T), Guanine (G), and Cytosine (C).
Which nitrogenous bases pair together?
Adenine pairs with Thymine, and Guanine pairs with Cytosine.
Where is extra-nuclear DNA found?
mitochondria and chloroplasts
What does hereditary mean?
Genetic information passed from parents to offspring.
What does DNA do?
It carries genetic information for protein synthesis.
