PTB lecture 8 Flashcards
vaccine
products that trigger an immune reaction in the body, so that the organism is better protected against an infection with the micro-organism against which the vaccine is supposed to work
B cells
produce antibodies
T helper cells
produce cytokines, help B cells and CLTs, stimulate macrophages
Cytotoxic T cells
produce cytokines, can lyse infected cells, defense
live attenuated vaccine
live viruses which have a reduced virulence because of special treatment
split-unit vaccines
intact or partially intact virus particles that are fully inactivated because of a chemical or health treatment
sub-unit vaccines
a purified suspension of membrane proteins
whole inactivated virus vaccine (WIV)
purified virus that is unable to replicate due to treatment with chemicals
substances that increase the immune response
Aluminium salts, iscoms (immune stimulating complexes), emulsion
