PTB lecture 5 Flashcards
slow release
the release of a drug from the dosage form is prolonged over a longer period of time (>45min)
delayed release
the release of a drug from the dosage form will not start immediately after administration, but will only start after a specific lag-time
targeted release
the release of a drug will occur at a predetermined site in the GI tract
zero-order release profile
release rate is independent from time, drug release is constant during the entire release time
first-order release profile
slowly decreasing rate of drug release, in time the drug release will be slower than in the beginning of the drug release (follows the square root of time)
pseudo-order profile release
faster release in the beginning of the drug release, after a period of linear drug release we find a decreasing release rate of the drug
eroding/rupturing coating
by applying different thicknesses of membrane around spheres, they will erupt at different times
absorption window
drug absorption only occurs in specific parts of the GI tract (often in the duodenum)
floating systems
based on low density or gas formation (CO2), polymer around drug will form a gel, at the end al powder is wetted
expanding systems
systems that grow large in the stomach, and are too large to pass the pylorus in the duodenum
targeted release in lower part of intestinal tract prevents….
absorption in higher parts of GI tract
ColoPulse coating
prevention that the capsule will not open entirely, and that not all drug will be released
