Drug induced psychosis

A

symptoms tend to be short acting if access to the psychoactive substance is removed
Beware of the comorbidity of substance misuse in schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder- therefore, psychotic symptoms in the context of substance misuse doesn’t always mean drug induced psychosis

Depressive psychosis

A

Mood congruent context of psychotic symptoms
delusions of worthlessness, guilt etc
hallucinations of accusing/insulting, threatening voices usually 2nd person

Delirium

A

Acute transient disturbance - infection, surgical patients, alcohol/drug withdrawal, cloudiness of consciousness, impaired conc/memory
Visual hallucinations/illusions +/- auditory hallucinations persecutory delusions, psychomotor disturbance, irritability, insomnia
