compulsory treatment order
application made by mental health officer supported by 2 medical reports (one must be AMP- approved medical practitioner)
Right of appeal, authorises treatment and requires a tribunal hearing
Care plan prepared by MHO
lasts for up to 6 months
patient can be in hospital or community
criteria for detention
have a mental disorder/ you suspect them to and are at risk to themselves/others
emergency detention
any registered medical practitioner, usually with consent of MHO, lasts for maximum of 72hrs
must be likely that the patient has a mental disorder
doesn’t authorise treatment except in an emergency
must be reviewed by an AMP as soon as practical
short term detention
applied by approved medical practitioner, requires MHO consent
authorises treatment and lasts for 28 days- likely that a patient has a mental disorder, patients ability to make decisions about treatment is significantly impaired, it is necessary to detain patient in hospital in to determine what treatment they need/give treatment
