What is statistical infrequency as a definition of abnormality?

A

When abnormality is defines behaviours that are extremely rare. What is regarded as rare depends on normal distribution. Most people that fall around the mean which means they are normal, anyone who falls outside of the normal distribution (5% of the population is abnormal) they are regarded as abnormal

A

When abnormality is defines as behaviour that contradicts what society deems socially acceptable. If an individual persistently behaves in a manner that disregards social norms.

What is failure to function adequately as a definition of abnormality?

A

When abnormality prevents them from functioning adequately with everyday life. In contemporary British culture, functioning adequately is holding down a job, managing finances, maintaining relationships and understanding basic services (shops and transport for example).
