Anxiety Disorders
constant fear and or anxiety
feeling anxious doees not mean anxiety disorder
Social Anxiety disorder
feeling like your constantly being judges
causes people to not want to go out
that behavior does reduce anxiety but does not help coping
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
constaant feeling of anxiety- jittery, tense, in a state of autmatic NS arousal
- cocentration is difficult and sleeping
-they dont know cause= free floating
- 2/3 women
DIFFERENT FROM PANIC
Panic disorder
Unpredictable long episodes of intense dread that can follow up with shortness of breath, other frightening sensations
- panick attack
- avoid situations that may cause it
Agoraphobia
Avoiding situations because you feel that your going to have aa panick attack and no one can help you
- avoid being outside
ex- cant go to movie theatre because you think youre going to have a panick attaack
Phobia
anixiety to a certain thing
- irrational and persistent
- avoid the stimulus
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
unwated thoughts ( obbsession) and actions ( compulsive)
- irraational obsession
dysfunctional
-hoarding disorder is wehn you struggle to part with items ( bIBI)
Trauma and Stress Disorders
PTSD
- flashbacks to event
nightmaares, insomia, emtoional detachment, anxiety - lingers for 4 or more weeks after traumatic event
- some people have survivor resilieny instead and postraumatic growth
Understanding Anixiety and related disorders ( OCD and PTSD)
- Psychodyanmic - id , ego , superego struggle, repression=anxiety
- Behavioral- conditioning ( Fear, reinforement) makes you fear things and reinforces you to avoid things
- Cognition - thoughts influence anxiety
- observational learning- what we see our parents fear, we fear
