What are two dependents in resisting social influence?

Explain social support in relation to Social influence?
Social influence allows people to resist pressure to conform as they have an ally which builds confidence
How does am Ally affect normative social influence?
If we have an ally we don’t feel ridiculed - we are part of a norm and so feel supported
How can Ashe’s variations be used to display Social support (evaluation)?
Rates of conformity dropped to 5% if the Naive had an ally even if they gave another wrong answer
What are locus of control?
It is the extent to which we believe we have control over our own lives
What do internal locus of control believe?
What happens to them in life is down to their own behaviour - they have control, thus they easily resist social control
What do external locus of control believe?
External locus of control believe what happens to them is controlled by external factors and thus they are more likely to succumb to authority
Evaluate locus of control?
People who helped the dues in WW2, rejecting authority had higher locus’ of control than this who didn’t
