  • B (Belief)= The (irrational/rational) thought about the event.
  • C (Consequence)= The emotional and behavioural response caused by the belief.

Can you explain how REBT therapy works?

A
  • Education- introducing the ABC model.
  • Activating event- identification of specific triggering event.
  • Beliefs- Identfication of irrational/ unhelpful belids about the event (catastrophising)
  • Disputing belief- through socratic questioning to encourage balanced thinking. Replace with rational/flexible thoughts
  • Consequences- explore how irrational beliefs actually lead to emotional and behavioural consequences.
  • HW- apply model to real-life situations (thought diary, behavioral experiments, role playing)

Strength and weakness of REBT (Ellis)

A

Strength- highly pratical as it focuses on highly actionable clear steps, leading to faster resolutions compared to more exploratory therapies.
Weakness- Requires motivation and thus limited for severe cases.
