Name 1 strength and weakness of Rational Emotional Behavioural Therapy (Ellis)?

A
  • Strength= Time-efficency: Can be more time-efficient as it focuses on clear, actionable and goal-oriented steps. It also focuses on present issues.
  • Weakness= Requires motivation, and thus may be unsuited for severely depressed individuals. Thus, AD (dosen’t require active participation, may be more suitable, limiting CBT’s use as a sole treatment.

Explain 1 strength and 1 weakness of biological treatments (drug therapies)

A
  • Strengths= Fast acting. Drug therapies can show positive effects within 2-4 weeks. Useful for immidate symptomn relief. Compared to psychotherapies which can take weeks/months.
  • Weakness= Side effects:All antidepressants come with side effects which can reduce treatment adherence.
