Schizophrenia
Mental disorder where reality is interpreted differently
Sx: Cognitive (Attention/Planning), Negative (Blunted emotions), Positive (Hallucinations)
Schizophrenic Brain
Enlarged ventricles, reduced brain size, reduced tissue.
Depression
Reduced frontal lobe activation, increased limbic structure activation.
Abnormal levels of cortisol, dopamine etc.
Alzheimer’s Disease
Decreased cognition and increased memory loss
increased brain atrophy
amyloid plaques (b-amyloid proteins)
NF tangles (tau) inside neurons
Parkinson’s Disease
Degenerative CNS motor disorder
No dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra

Anxiety Disorders
Panic disorder, Panic attack, Generalized anxiety disorder, Phobias, PTSD, OCD & Acute stress disorder

Suffered a panic attack and is worried about more
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
General anxiousness about many things
Specific Phobia
Phobia about a certain object or situation
Social Phobia
Fear of various social situations
PTSD
Intense fear/horror/helplessness and hyperaroused
Acute Stress disorder
Similar to PTSD but Sx
Somatoform Disorders
Psychological disorder characterized by physical Sx and mimmic physical disease. No medical explanation.
Conversion Disorder
Functional impairment with no physical cause. Ex: experience blindness but have blink reflex.
