Macrosociology
The analysis of social systems and populations on a large scale, at the level of social structure
Functionalism
Durkheim. Looks at how institutions in the society change, to keep the society stable
Conflict Theory
Society is made up of institutions that benefit the powerful and create inequalities. Conflict is resolved when power is equally distributed.
Microsociology
Small scale social interactions, interpretive analysis of society.
Symbolic Constructionism
Ideas have value due to the value we assign them, i.e paper money. We construct the world around us.
Symbolic Interactionism
We assign meaning to things based on our experiences, social interactions and can change over time. Different people assign different meanings to things based on their experiences.
Rational-Exchange Theory
Individuals are fundamentally rational, weigh and select the best action. All actions can be ranked. Transitivity. Independence of irrelevant alternatives. People behave with maximizing their reward and minimize pain.
Feminist Theory
Feminist theory views at the gender differences, gender oppression and gender inequality in society.
