Superego
Forms at the end of the phallic stage and is guided by your morality principle
- if superego is inadequate then the id is given full reigh
Types of inadequate superego
weak, deviant, and overly harsh
Weak superego
absence of same sex parent in phallic stage so there is no opportunity for identification so feels no guilt
Deviant superego
Child identifies with same sex parent who is immoral
Overly harsh superego
Srict parenting leads to the unconscious desire to want to be punished
Maternal deprivation
Bowlby suggested that your relationship with you mother is crucial to future relationships anf that lack of a mother can lead to affectionless psychopathy and delinquency
