How did Kohlberg come up with the levels?
- used a moral dilema technique (Heinz dilema)
What level are offenders?
preconventional
- needto avoid punishment and gain rewards and are less mature
Offenders are egocentric
often self centred and display poorer social perpective taking skills
- higher levels show the oppositve of this were they are honest, generous, and not violent

- compared moral reasoning in 322 non offenders and 126 offenders
- offenders showed less moral reasoning than non offenders

Kohlberg only used boys in vignette study yet applied to all
