Conversion disorder (functional neurological symptom disorder) is defined by
one or more symptoms affecting voluntary motor or sensory function suggesting a neurologic condition:
The symptoms include motor or sensory deficits, seizures, or mixed symptoms that cause significant impairment in everyday functioning.
Although the symptoms have psychological origins, the symptoms are not intentionally produced (in contrast to the various forms of malingering).
Histrionic personality disorder is characterized by
colorful, exaggerated behavior and excitable, shallow expression of emotions.
The person uses physical appearance to draw attention to self, is sexually seductive, and is uncomfortable in situations where he or she is not the center of attention.
What is the differential diagnosis of anxiety?
Medical conditions and substance induced etiologies (ex, intoxication and withdrawl). Anxiety due to a general medical condition is diagnosed when symptoms are the physiological consequences of an underlying medical condition (ex, hyperthyroidism)
What are the DSM 5 criteria for the 4 anxiety disorders?
Social anxiety disorder: Anxiety restricted to social& performance situations, fear of scrutiny & embarrassment
Panic disorder: recurrent, unexpected panic attacks
Specific phobia: excessive anxiety about a specific object or situation (phobic stimulus)
Generalized anxiety disorder: Chronic multiple worries, anxiety, tension
What should be prescribed for treatment resistanct schizophrenia?
Clozapine
Requires monitoring of the absolute neutrophil count due to risk of agranulocytosis

Avoidant vs Antisocial personalit disorder?
Avoidant: social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and fear of embarrassment and rejection
Antisocial: disregard for and violation of the rights of others (risk takers criminal behavior)
Why must patients wait at least 2 weeks after discontinuing and MAOI before starting an SSRI?
Any overlap/coadministration of these drugs could result in serotonin syndrome.
