Pruritus - Differentials
A
LIVER DISEASE:
- Hx of ETOH
- Stigmata of CLD (spider naevi, bruising, palmar erythema, gynecomastia)
- Evidence of decompensation (ascites, jaundice, encephalopathy)
IRON DEFICIENCY ANAEMIA:
- Pallor
- Koilonychia
- Atrophic glossitis
- Post-cricoid webs
- Angular stomatitis
POLYCYTHAEMIA:
- Pruritis partic after warm bath
- ‘Ruddy’ complexion
- Gout
- PUD
CKD:
- Lethargy and pallor
- Oedema and weight gain
- HTN
LYMPHOMA
- Night sweats
- Lymphadenopathy
- Splenomegaly
- Hepatomegaly
- Fatigue
Other causes:
- DM
- Hyper and Hypothyroidism
- Pregnancy
- Senile pruritis
- urticaria
- skin disorders - eczema, scabies, psoriasis, pityriasis rosea
