Hairy Cell Leukaemia

A

Rare malignant proliferation disorder of B cells.
More common in M (4:1)

Features:

  • pancytopenia
  • splenomegaly
  • skin vasculitis in 1/3 patients
  • ‘Dry tap’ despite bone marrow hypercellularity
  • Tartrate resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) stain positive

Mx:

  • Chemo = 1st line CLADRIBINE, PENTOSTATIN
  • Immunotherapy = 2nd line RITUXIMAB, INTERFERON-ALPHA
