Proteins Flashcards
1
Q
How are ‘Proteins’ made?
A
- By Ribosomes, which are made in the cell by organelles
2
Q
Where is ‘DNA’ found?
A
- In the cell nucleus and it cannot move of it, as it is really big
3
Q
Where does the cell get the information from?
A
- From the DNA, but it’s shorter and only a single strand
4
Q
What is ‘mRNA’?
A
- It is like a messenger between the DNA in the nucleus and the ribosome
5
Q
What is the first stage of the process?
A
- The two DNA strands unzip.
- The DNA is used as a template to make the mRNA.
- Base pairing ensures it is complementary, which is called transcription
6
Q
What then happens to the mRNA molecule?
A
- It then moves out of the nucleus and joins a ribosome
7
Q
Describe the roe that Amino Acids have
A
- Amino Acids that match the mRNA code are brought to the ribosome by molecules called tRNA
8
Q
What is the job that the ribosome has?
A
- Sticking amino acids together in a chain to make protein
9
Q
What is Translation?
A
- Where the order is followed of the triplet of bases in the mRNA
