Protein Synthesis Flashcards
1
Q
What does a Gene code for?
A
- A specific protein
2
Q
Define ‘Gene’
A
- A section of DNA.
- It contains the instructions to make a specific protein
3
Q
How do Cells make proteins?
A
- By stringing amino acids together in a particular order
4
Q
What are Amino Acids used for?
A
- Thousands of different proteins
- 20 different amino acids
5
Q
Describe what the order of bases in a gene does
A
- Tells cells in what order to put the amino acids together
- Each set of three bases codes for a particular amino acid
6
Q
What does ‘DNA’ do?
A
- Determines which genes are switched on or off, so which proteins the cell produces
- E.g haemoglobin
7
Q
The proteins being produced by cells determines what?
A
- What type of cell it is e.g red blood cell
