PH Effect Flashcards
1
Q
Describe how the pH can effect the enzyme
A
- If its too high or too low, it inferes with the bonds holding the enzyme together
2
Q
What does this effect then lead to?
A
- This changes the shape of the active site and denatures the enzyme
3
Q
What pH do enzymes work at?
A
- All enzymes have an optimum pH they work best at which is neurtal pH 7
4
Q
What is the pattern seen: the higher the substrate concentration…
A
- The faster the reaction
5
Q
What is likely to happen with the enzyme?
A
- It is more likely that the enzyme will meet up and react with a substrate molecule
6
Q
What can happen to this enzyme though?
A
- It is only to a point, as there are so many substrate molecules that the enzymes have about as much as they cope with
- This is because all the active sites are full
7
Q
What does adding more do?
A
- It makes no difference
