What is the ‘Found Property Report’, what is its purpose?
- POL263 Found property report
- Record of Found property
- Receipt for finder
- Help locate owner of property
- Shows how property was disposed of.
- Audit document DO NOT DESTROY
What action do you take if found property is handed to you on the street?
- Notebook Entry
:Full details of finder
:Time, date and place of receipt

:Check the property against notebook entry
:Have finder sign - Watch house action
:Take property to w/h asap.

:Mail the original to finder - Labelling and securing

- Have them sign for receipt on POL263
- Advise the finders details
- If the finder has shown an interest in claiming the property notify that it has been claimed

- Seized drugs are recorded on Drug Exhibit Form POL374
- Items found with drugs such as tinfoil or plastic bags are recorded on POL268
What is the procedure in relation to firearms and ammunition?
- If surrendered, record in Arms Surrender Book, with forms POL67 in triplicate
- If seized record in POL268
List the practical action to take when finding or receiving property at the station.
- Property checked in presence of finder
- Complete POL263 and finder signs it
- Original to finder as receipt
- Label Property POL220 and secure
- Triplicate to found property index
- Submit duplicate to Watchouse SSgt for further inquiries
