Prokaryotic Cells [B] Flashcards
What is the main difference between an Eukaryotic cell and a Prokaryotic cell?
Eukaryotic cells have a nuclear while Prokaryotic cells don’t.
Name all the structures of a Prokaryotic cell.
Flagellum, Pilli, Plasmid, Capsule, Plasma Membrane, Cell Wall, Ribosome
What are the 2 types of ribosomes, which type of cell has which?
70s and 80s Ribosomes. Prokaryotic cells have 70s ribosomes, Eukaryotic cells have 80s.
What is the structure and function of the Capsule?
Sticky outmost layer.
Prevents the cell from drying out by absorbing moisture.
Helps the cell stick to surfaces
Protects from white blood cells
What is the structure and function of the Pilli?
Little hairs on the outside of the cell, used to attach to other cells or surfaces.
What is the structure and function of the Flagellum?
A tail on the cell which helps with movement.
What is the structure and function of the Plasmid?
Strands of DNA.
Has alleles for antibiotic resistance
Allows for gene transfer between cells
