Q

What is electron affinity?

A

The change in energy when one mole of gaseous atom gains one mole of electron to form a negative ion.

(Indicates how strong the attraction is between an atom and electron)

Q

What is electronegativity? What does it depend on?

A

It’s a measure of the tendency of an atom to attract a bonding pair of electrons

Depends on:
- Number of protons
- Distance from nucleus
- How much shielding there is
