Process Of Science Quiz 2 Flashcards
Describe the steps of the scientific method
Make observations →ask question →form hypothesis→experiment→ accept
reject/modify hypothesis
How would this apply to an experiment ?
(Scientific method)
What is the dependent variable?
A dependent variable effects the experiment (results) (outcome)
What is an independent variable?
An independent variable is the experimental part that is manipulated by the scientists
What is a controlled variable?
A variable that is kept constant in an experiment
What is the basic nature of science?
Science asks questions that can only have a measurable and observable answer through the collection of data.
Basically science is about formulating a hypothesis and finding evidence that supports or conflicts with hypothesis
What is the relationship between Science and objectivity?
Science is restricted to objectivity
Meaning science only studies the material world that can be observed measured and tested
How are other academic fields different from the field of biology?
Many academic fields are subjective where as biology onlystudies what is observable and measurable
What is objectivity?
What is good science?
Good science is based off statistics
What is subjectivity? And what fields are subjective?
Art fields, politics, philosophy, and religion are subjective meaning are based off emotions morals what is right and wrong
What is a control group?
A control group experiences all the steps in the experiment but does not have the
variable that is being tested on
What is an experimental group?
An experimental group is the group where a variable is being tested on
What is a hypothesis?
A hypothesis is a a testifiable statement that explains a set of observations
What is a theory?
A theory is when a hypothesis has been verified multiple times and is carefully formulated and well tested hypothesis that’s explains observations
