When people move into a city, there can be nowhere for them to live.
Millions live in shanty towns or squatter settlements
why is traffic congestion an issue
Transport systems can become overloaded and overcrowded and traffic congestion can become a real problem.
Vehicles can also cause pollution and smog in the city
why is education an issue
Rapid population growth can mean lack of schools.
Not all children can go to school (especially secondary)
Many children work to provide for their family.
why is employment an issue
Many newcomers are unable to find work.
Many are unemployed or work in the informal sector.
what is bad with people working in the informal section
no tax gets paid and therefore the government and local councils have no money to act with
why is health an issue
Often there are not enough doctors or hospitals to deal with the increase in population
Disease and infections can be high in megacities
why do diseases and infections spread so fast in cities
densely populated(a lot of people in a small area)
why is water and electricity an issue
Not all parts of the city may have access to running water or electricity. Many people rely on fired for cooking and rivers for water
why is crime an issue
Some megacities can suffer high crime rates.
Rio in Brazil is famous for having gangs that run parts of the favelas (shanty towns)
why is the environmental impact an issue
Traffic, Industry and housing pollute the air and water.
Noise pollution light pollution can also be problems.
