What is migration?
Migration is the movement of people from one permanent home to another. This movement changes the population of a place.
What is International Migration?
International migration is the movement from one country to another.
What is emigration?
People who leave their country
What is immigration?
People who move into another country and the movement of people into a country is known as immigration
What is rural to urban migration?
It is where people move from the countryside to the city
Why do people migrate?
The reasons people leave a place are called push factors, because they are pushing you away. The reasons people are attracted to new places to live are called the pull factors, because they are pulling you towards another country.
Give some examples of push factors
Few jobs, war, famine, natural disaster
Give some examples of pull factors
Better healthcare, job opportunities, education, safety
What is an asylum seeker?
Someone who has been forced to leave their own country because they are in danger, eg fleeing as a result of their religious beliefs or the danger of war.
