What is privation?
The complete absence of an attachment figure or when an attachment between child and caregiver is never formed
Describe what probation Genie experienced
For 13 years she was locked in a room tied to a chair, she was apparently diagnosed with mental retardation as a baby. She was beat for talking and had no attachment figure
What happened to Genie when she was rescued?
She went to hospital where she was tested on and formed attachments with some staff members. Her language development didn’t improve beyond that of a toddler
She didn’t overcome privation

Two Czech twins who were privates
How were the Czech twins privated/ what happened to them?
They were locked in a cupboard, they were found at age 6 malnourished and mentally retarded
What happened to the Czech twins when rescued?
They went to a home and were fostered by sisters who took care of them. By 20 they had relationships and secure jobs
Who did Freud and Dann study?
War children around the age of 3 who only had transient adults to attach to.
What does age have to do with privation?
Genie was 13 when she was found and never overcame privation whereas the Czech twins were 6 and the war children were 3 and they did overcome privation
Why might the Czech children have overcame privation and Genie didn’t?
The Czech twins and bulldogs bank children had each other to attach to - even if they didn’t have a parent whereas Genie was completely alone.
