Location of the 1985 London riots (caused by police brutality against and killing of Dorothy Groce and Cynthia Jarett) and the 2011 London riots (caused by police brutality against and killing of Mark Duggan)
In December 2022. it was announced that the area would receive a £130 million transformation involving the creation of 300 social houses after 2 blocks were deemed unsafe after inspections following the 2017 Grenfell fire. Additionally, a wellbeing hub and replacement enterprise centre will be built however some residents are skeptical, claiming the new development would only provide 35% 3 and 4 bedroom houses instead of the 55% target.
What was done in Hudswell?
In 2017, following the closure of the pubs such as the Cullen and Lightfoot, 200 residents bought shares in the pubs allowing them to reopen. These pubs also have shops staffed by villagers. This made the area more popular as a community hub causing house prices to increase. In response, villagers adapted their plan and decided to build 6 community houses - 3 of which are already under construction.
