What is gentrification?
A
A change in the social structure to an area in proportion of more affluent people living in an area. Local councils often cater more to wealthier families, as they have more disposable income to spend in the local economy. house prices often increase and poorer people are priced out.

- Social Housing is no longer provided . This creates a community of predominantly affluent families. There is a lack of economic diversity.

A
- In the 1970s this area was dominated by council estates
- Wealthy families and young professionals on average incomes £78,000 per year whilst tenants of council housing have average incomes of £15,500.
- Conflicts - Newer, more affluent residents complain about the noise coming from local markets, market vendors and residents who have lived there much longer, typically in lower quality less expensive housing (such as social housing) defend the street markets.
