Principles Of Training Flashcards
What does the S stand for in the acronym sport?
Specificity
What is meant by specificity?
Making training specific and relevant to the individual and their sport
What does the P and O stand for in the acronym sport?
Progressive overload
What is meant by progressive overload
Training frequency intensity time or type must be increased over the training period to ensure that the body is pushed beyond as normal rhythm increases must be gradual so that athlete avoid plateau performance or worse an injury
What does the R stand for in acronym sport?
Reversibility
What is meant by reversibility?
If fitness adaptations are lost or reversed this can occur due to injury or illness where an athlete is unable to train for a period of time . At a time is essential to avoid breaks in training and to maintain the motivation of the athlete.
What does the T stand for in the acronym sport?
Tedium
What is meant by tedium?
Athletes need variety in their training to prefer boredom but also some types of overuse injuries such as strains or even stress fractures. the principle of tedium is applied when a trainer builds variety into the training by changing the training method
What does the F stand for in the acronym FITT?
Frequency
What is meant by frequency?
How often we train it can be increased by training greater number of times each week
What does the I stand for in acronym FITT?
Intensity
What is meant by intensity?
Intensity is increased by lifting greater resistance such as weight training or training at a higher percentage of maximum heart rate this can even be done as continuous or interval training
What do the two T’s stand for in the acronym FITT?
Time and type
What is the definition of time in in reference to the acronym FITT?
Can be manipulated by training for longer reducing recovery times or by completing greater number of sets or repetitions (how long you train)
What is meant by typing reference to the acronym FITT?
The type of training is manipulated offering the variety of training types and experiences to the athlete by combining training methods (the type of training)
