Movement Flashcards
What does a lever consist of?
A rigid structure (bone) a force acting upon it (muscle) a fulcrum (joint) a load of resistance placed on the rigid structure (Weight of body parts being moved)
What order is the first class lever ?
Load fulcrum effort
What happens at the first class lever?
Raising your head
What order is the second-class lever?
Effort load fulcrum
What happens at the second-class lever?
Plantar flexion
What order is the third class lever?
Fulcrum effort load
What happens at the third class lever?
A bicep curl kicking throwing
What is the equation for mechanical advantage?
Effort arm divided by resistance arm
Describe the Sagittal plane
A vertical plane that divides the body into left and right sides
What happens at the sagittal plane?
Extension and flexion
Describe the frontal plane
Passes from side to side and divides the body into the front and back
What movements happen at the frontal plane?
Abduction and adduction
Describe the transverse plane
Passes through the middle of the body and divides the body horizontally in an upper and lower half
What types of movement occur at the transverse plane?
Rotation
Describe the transverse axis
This line runs from the left to right through the centre of the body
Describe the sagittal axis
This line runs from the front to back through the centre of the body
Describe the longitudinal axis
This line runs from the top to the bottom through the centre of the body
What axis goes with the sagital plane
Transverse
What axis goes with the frontal plane
Sagital
What axis goes with the transverse plane ?
Longitudinal
