Affects Of Exercise Flashcards
What are the immediate effects of exercise?
Increase in stroke volume heart rate cardiac output and blood pressure. Increase in breathing rate and tidal volume. Increase an oxygen uptake and carbon dioxide removal. increase in lactate production and increase in temperature of muscles and increase pliability
What are the short term effects of exercise? (24-36 hours after)
Tiredness and fatigue (both mentally and physically) lightheadedness nausea and delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMS)
What are long-term effects of exercise?
Cardiac hypertrophy, increased stroke volume, decrease in resting heart rate, increase in maximum cardiac output due to capillarisation at the lungs and muscles increasing the number of red blood cells. In increased number of functioning alveoli and strength of the respiratory muscles increased conduction of energy from the aerobic energy system and increased tolerance to lactic acid. Muscle hypertrophy and increased strength for tendons and ligaments. Increase in bone density. Increase in strength, flexibility, speed and muscular endurance.
What is capillarisation ?
The process where new capillaries are formed
