Principles of Qualitative Movement Analysis Flashcards
Principles of Qualitative Movement Analysis
- Preparation
- Observations
- Evaluation (diagnosis)
- Error detection (intervention)
Preparation
The action or process of
preparing or being prepared for use or consideration.
In this stage the coach/teacher needs to determine:
* What is being analysed
* Why it is being analysed
* How it is being analysed
Observation
- Observation is the process of looking at the performance of the subject(s).
- Observations can be performed live (coaching watching during a training session) or recorded and then reviewed.
Evaluation
The term ‘evaluation’ generally refers to a judgement of quality. The teacher/coach will do the following during evaluation:
* Decide what the problem is.
* Decide what is causing the problem
* Decide how the problem can be addressed
Inter-rater reliability
Degree of agreement between judges/raters
Intra-rater reliability
Refers to consistency of
ratings given by a judge/rater.
Validity
The method measures what it is intended to measure.
Reliability
The results attained by the
measure will be consistent
Error correction
Through analysis, weaknesses are identified and strategies to develop these weaknesses are
put in place
Direct Coaching
Traditional direct coaching approaches are rigid, and provide feedback on every practice attempt. This limits the need for the learner to go searching for their own movement solutions.
Constraints based coaching
Constraints are boundaries that shape a learner’s self-organising movement
patterns, cognitions and decision-making processes. Constraints influence the
way performers or learners process information, make decisions and ultimately
move.
