Priciples Of Mmt Flashcards
What does the break test require
Requires the client to hold the position and not let the examiner break the hold
____ manual resistance is applied to a limb or other body part at the point in the rom where the muscle is most challenged.
Break test
____ the examiner applies manual resistance against an actively contracting muscle
Active resistance test
When is the active resistance test done
Performed to identify points in the rom where weakness may be present
Application of resistance follows the ____ of muscle and joint mechanics
Length tension relationship
Where is resistance given for 1 joint muscles
Given at the end of range for consistency
Where is resistance given for two joint muscles
Resistance is given at mid range.
Where is the resistance applied
Near the distal end of the segment to which the muscle attaches
What is the subjective criteria for assigning an mmt grade
The standard amount if resistance for the test as perceived by the examiner
The amount of resistance the client actually tolerates
What is the objective criteria for assigning an mmt grade
The ability to complete the full arom
The ability to hold the position
The ability to move against gravity or move at all
How to assign a muscle grade of 1
It’s only palpable contraction, no active movement of the joint. You move the joint into position first and then ask them to hold it there
What is a 3+
Mild resistance at the end of arom against gravity. Relates to the ability to use an orthosis, such as one to assist with foot clearance during gait.
What is a muscle grade of 2-
Muscle can complete partial arom in a gravity eliminated position, this can disgnate an improvement to return to function
