- adds validity to your argument
- experts know a lot about your topic

What should you do before you begin researching?

- write down a list of “research questions”
- these are the questions you want to find answers to as you read
- make sure there is a place to take notes

- books, academic journals, online, newspapers, journal databases, etc.

- “wiki” websites
- old or dated material
- consumer magazines

What should you do when you find your answers?
A
- take notes of information of notes that would be useful in answering your questions and supporting you topic and reasons:
- direct quote
- paraphrase
- summarize

What should you do after you have found your answer?
A
- write down your citation (where you got the information)
- title
- author
- source (book, journal, website, etc.)
- page number/web address
- date
