What is genre?
it is categories of literature, each genre has similar characteristics, and they sometimes help us think about movies because they correlate
What are the two main genres?
fiction and non-fiction
fiction
fake, did not really happen, made up, usually has a plot
non-fiction
true, real, opinion, not made up
What are some genres in fiction?
realistic, historical, science, comedy/humor, romance, action/adventure, horror, fantasy, and mystery fiction
realistic fiction
stories that seem like they could really happen, but they didn’t
historical fiction
when the setting of a book is an older time period
science fiction
usually the setting of the book is in the future
comedy/humor fiction
it is just a book that makes you laugh, the plot is not deep
romance ficiton
the main plot line of the book is a relationship between two people
action/adventure fiction
the books that keep you on the edge of your seat, the main character is a hero figure
horror fiction
scary books, there might be supernatural beings
fantasy fiction
you are in a fantasy world, things that can never take place in real life
mystery fiction
it is usually the game of who did it, there might be a detective and a crime scene

biography, autobiography, articles, diaries, research, textbooks, how-to, and editorial (opinion)
