-Americans: analytic thinking style, Authoritative parenting, 180 days spent in school, 10% of school day spent on math, wished for less school and homework
-East Asians: holistic thinking style, authoritarian parenting, 240 days spent in school, 80% of school day spent on math, wished for academic success and to go to college

Arranged Marriages
- arranged marriages are less common in cultures where nuclear family ties are the focus
- global divorce rate for arranged marriages is significantly lower than love marriages
- 55% of marriages that occur in the world today are arranged

Mind-Altering Drugs
Mind-Altering Drug: any substance that affects mental processes, such as cognition and affect, and can induce shifts in perception, feeling, and thought
US: drugs used more for recreation, relaxation, and coping , alcohol and nicotine are most prevalent
Peru: ceremonial and spiritual use, use hallucinogens to cleanse, heal, communicate with spirits, spiritual awakening, find lost items, tribal initiation

America vs. Mauritania
Mauritania: over 20% of women report force feeding, eat up to 16,000 cals a day
America: 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from significant eating disorders at some point in life
**although Mauritania experiences more force feeding, the US still experiences much more obesity and overweight problems with society
BED (Binge Eating Disorder)
- 1 in 35 Americans suffer from BED
- 1 out of 3 BED patients are also diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes
- people underestimate their portion sizes up to 25%
- women are more likely to be diagnosed with BED before men
- Out of 100 African American women surveyed, 2% ID’d as being eating disordered and 23% ID’d as problematic due to their caucasian peer influences
