A
chromosome abnormalities
FSH receptor gene polymorphisms

How is a diagnosis made
A
FSH >25IU/l – 2 samples >4 weeks apart + 4 months of amenorrhoea,
must confirm menopause

why is FSH increased in POI
A
¥ No feedback of oestrogen to the pituitary so FSH just gets higher and higher

What is the management
A
Oestrogen replacement:
Ð HRT until 51
Ð COCP
Androgen replacement (mainly for libido) - testosterone gel
