2 step method:
1. 50g glucose solution, abnormal if blood glucose >130-140 at 1h
2. 100g glucose solution dx if 2 readings are:
fasting >95
1h >180
2h >155
3h >140
What should be used instead of glucose solution for gastric bypass patients when screening for GDM?
- candy
- predefined meal
- commercial soft drink
Why would we test someone for GDM in the first trimester?
- hx of GDM
- known impaired glucose metabolism
- BMI >30
How often should glucose be monitored in GDM?
4 times per day
What are goals for GDM?
fasting <95
1h postprandial <140
2h postprandial <120
What are pharm options for GDM?
- insulin 0.7-1 U/kg/day
- glyburide 2.5-20 qhs
- metformin
What should be done with meds after delivery?
D/C
What is the first line option for GDM?
